In Vienna Diego Muñoz and his team along with the experienced kitchen staff of Mercado, presents a tantalizing casual, sharing plate menu of delicious servings as Diego Muñoz created it at La Barra, just next door to Astrid y Gáston in the culinary palace headquarters of the historic hacienda of Casa Moreyra.

Chef Muñoz elaborates:

“This style of cooking comes from the inspiration of old Limeñan canteen bars, where you enjoy nice pisco cocktails, good beers or local wines paired with traditional dishes made of old Peruvian recipes. Dishes to be share at the table.”

“Bringing this style of food to Mercado is a celebration of this old tradition, and what better than bringing it to beautiful Vienna at a restaurant that so diligently looks into Latin roots?”

Klaus Piber, owner of Mercado, has travelled for culinary experiences throughout Latin America for decades. His interest and passion for Latin America was born when he met his wife, Luz, who originates from the Dominican Republic.

On one of their many trips, Luz & Klaus Piber experienced Casa Moreyra in Lima, where they enjoyed the cooking style and ambiance of both Astrid y Gastón and La Barra, and especially at La Barra the style goes very well with the philosophy of the everyday market cuisine at Mercado.

Klaus Piber explains:

“We enjoyed the two styles of cooking at Casa Moreyra. The very experimental menu, “memories of my life as a child” where a culinary story was told from the perspective of Peruvian childhood memories up to the time when he grew up and the more classical dishes in the sister restaurant.”

“We were very impressed by the diversity of Diego’s cooking styles and creativity. We are very much looking forward to introducing his distinctive style to our guests here at Mercado!”
